April 2022: Letter from the Director
Spring has Sprung
Spring has sprung, and it's hard to believe we are almost to May. But I'd like to take a moment to reflect on 2021 and share our Year in Review publication that highlights our achievements. I am proud of the outreach events my staff, collaborators, and I have offered on various topics. I encourage you to read about the exciting programs we have presented, and if you missed an event, all recordings are available on our YouTube channel.
We are gearing up for the return of in-person and hybrid events later this summer. In the meantime, there are some upcoming events around the Robert Mondavi Institute that you may find interesting.
The Rossi Lecture Series, hosted by the Viticulture and Enology Department, brings internationally recognized, preeminent scholars to UC Davis. Dr. Dominique Bergmann from Stanford University will present on April 25 at the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.
As part of the 108th Picnic Day on April 23, the student-run Davis Organization of Enology and Viticulture (DEVO) will host multiple activities at the Robert Mondavi Institute, including grapevine giveaways, tours of the LEED Platinum-certified Teaching Winery, and a demonstration of barrel making between 11:00 and 1:30 pm. View the schedule for details.
A descriptive analysis wine sensory study starts on April 25, and they are looking for volunteers interested in wine and are over 21 years of age. View their flier for details and email Annegret Cantu with questions.
Finally, we are working on a series of video virtual tours that feature the winery, vineyard, Good Life Garden, brewery, Food Innovation Lab, sensory facilities, and the food processing pilot plant. We hope to share those with you in June to give you a glimpse inside the innovative facilities, including research, teaching, and student perspective.
Stay safe and enjoy Spring!
Sincerely,
Andrew Waterhouse
