RMI Student Workers 2024-2025

The Robert Mondavi Institute is supported by a wonderful group of student workers who have the opportunity to learn about the Robert Mondavi Insitute through our programs and events, engage with the community, and gain experience and connections. We are proud to have them as part of our team!

Christopher Chiu

Christopher Chiu

Christopher is a third-year food science student concentrating in brewing sciences. He is an avid home brewer and has a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt. Christopher is excited to make connections and hear all about the ins and outs of the brewing industry. He has three years of experience as a student worker with the Robert Mondavi Institute, is an event support lead, and facilitates honey-tasting presentations.
 

Gwen Gonzalez

Gwen Gonzalez

Student Writer, Food Science and Technology
Gwen Gonzalez is a fourth-year food science major passionate about storytelling and food innovation. She is an active member of the Food Tech Club on campus and assists in Guinard's Lab pursuing sensory science. When she's not thinking about food, she immerses herself in music and the performing arts at the Manetti Shrem Museum and Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. In the future, she hopes to merge her interests in food and the arts and contribute to creative research and development in the food industry.

Kaylianne Jordan

Kaylianne Jordan

Student Writer, Viticulture and Enology 
Kaylianne Jordan is a junior transfer student studying Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis. She has a background in culinary arts and a passion for sustainable farming and enjoys exploring the connections between agriculture, winemaking, and community. Outside of college, she loves trying out new recipes, discovering local food spots, and spending time with friends in the outdoors.
 

Mabel Lu

Mabel Lu

Mabel Lu is a third-year student majoring in food science, focusing on food microbiology. Thanks to the knowledge she has gained from studying at UC Davis, she has discovered a strong interest in microbial food safety and quality assurance and had the lucky opportunity to volunteer at the International Association for Food Protection’s annual meeting this year. She loves baking bread from scratch, traveling to new countries, and listening to rock music even as a classical violist. As an aspiring food scientist, she hopes to secure an internship in food safety and quality assurance to gain experience and improve food safety standards in the industry one step at a time.

Lanie Whaley

Lanie Whaley

Lanie is a third-year Animal Science student interested in veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation. After pursuing her degree in Animal Science, she hopes to attend veterinary school and help rehabilitate animals in need. She enjoys spending time with her dog, trying new foods, and finding new music to listen to in her free time. By joining the RMI student worker team, she hopes to gain some on-campus experience while also forming connections with the UC Davis community.
