Tour the Robert Mondavi Institute

About the Tours:

Come tour and discover the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, which is home to the Department of Food Science and Technology, and the Department of Viticulture and Enology. Facilities include the LEED platinum-certified winery, brewery, milk laboratory and food processing pilot plant, the teaching vineyard, sensory laboratories, food innovation lab and Silverado Vineyards Sensory Theater.

Tours begin in the lobby of the Robert Mondavi Institute’s Sensory Building. Once parked, walk along the breezeway between the South and North buildings, and pass the Good Life Garden. The Sensory Building (1) is located at the end of the garden and borders the vineyard and Old Davis Road. Enter the single set of double doors on the right, into the reception lobby (window sign says Centers of Excellence).

Details:

  • Tours require a minimum of 10 people. The maximum capacity for a tour is 25 people.
  • Tours are approximately 1 to 1.5 hours long.
  • Tours must be arranged at least 2 weeks in advance.

Safety Requirements:

The Teaching Winery is a working winery and safety procedures need to be followed. Visitors must wear closed-toed shoes in the winery. Safety glasses will be issued if there are winery operations taking place. Please refrain from using fragrances prior to taking a tour. If fragrances are used, the winery reserves the right to ask visitors to view from the hallway.

Tour Fees:

Tour fees are determined by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. 

  • UC Davis affiliate fee is $25 per person (recharge accounts accepted).
  • The general public fee is $35 per person (check or cash accepted).

From Sacramento, I-80 West
Take the UC Davis/Mondavi Center exit. Turn right onto Old Davis Road and continue east past the traffic circle to Hilgard Lane. Turn right on Hilgard Lane. Parking will be on your left, either in the enclosed parking structure or to your immediate left or a bit farther ahead in the open lot.

From the Bay Area, I-80 East 
Take the UC Davis/ Mondavi Center exit. Turn left onto Old Davis Road and continue east past the traffic circle to Hilgard Lane. Turn right on Hilgard Lane. Parking will be on your left, either in the enclosed parking structure or to your immediate left or a bit farther ahead in the open lot.

From Woodland, Highway 113 South
Take the I-80 east off-ramp towards Sacramento. Take the UC Davis/ Mondavi Center Exit near the end of the ramp and turn left onto Old Davis Road. Continue east past the traffic circle to Hilgard Lane. Turn right on Hilgard Lane. Parking will be on your left, either in the enclosed parking structure to your immediate left or a bit farther ahead in the open lot.

Visitor Parking:

Parking is available at the Gateway Parking Structure on Hilgard Lane. Parking payment is enforced on weekdays (weekends are free). There are three options for parking payment:

  1. UC Davis uses AggiePark. Download the free AMP Park app on your iPhone or Android beforehand. When you park, you will enter the Zone (listed on the nearby sign) into the app and follow the instructions to pay for parking.
  2. If you do not have a smartphone to download the app, you can also sign up for an account online and follow the steps on the website: https://aimsmobilepay.com/
  3. Alternatively, there are permit machines at street level in the northeast corner (closest to the Mondavi Performing Arts Center). You will need to enter your license plate number into the machine and use a credit card to purchase a permit.
