RMI on Picnic Day 2023

April 2023: Letter from the Director

RMI Welcomes Thousands

Only two months are left in the academic year, and the campus is buzzing with spring energy!

Last weekend's 109th Picnic Day was one for the record books, welcoming thousands of guests to the Robert Mondavi Institute! The Davis Enology and Viticulture Organization (DEVO) gave away more than 2,000 grapevines, the Honey and Pollination Center had at least 150 people waiting in line for all four hours, and the UC Davis Olive Center handed out 1,800 olive oil samples. The Department of Viticulture and Enology hosted winery tours and a barrel-making demo. The Department of Food Science and Technology handed out dark leafy green juice samples. It was a fantastic day indeed, and thank you to everyone who visited! View our Facebook photo album to see highlights.

Our Year in Review 2022 is now on our website. Please read about our accomplishments, program highlights, updates from the Centers of Excellence, and acknowledgment of our Executive Committee, Honorary Board, Friends, and staff members.

Our spring events continue with Forum: UC Davis Student Farm on May 16. Their small farm makes a significant impact on students. We'll hear from the new director Colin Dixon, and students will join him to talk about growing organic vegetables for their CSA boxes and student pantry, their cut flower program, and much more. We'll share three videos that showcase the farm. We will broadcast live via Zoom and share the event recording on our YouTube channel. Subscribe to our channel to be notified

If you missed our recent programs, find recordings and recap articles below, along with upcoming events from our centers and partners.

Finally, the Robert Mondavi Institute is now on LinkedIn. Follow us to connect.

Sincerely,

Andrew Waterhouse
Director, Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science
