February 2022: Letter from the Director
Spring Happenings
Even though we are experiencing a cold snap in Davis this week, you can feel that spring is just around the corner. We are ramping up for a busy spring with many upcoming events.
There is still time to register for tonight's Walt Klenz series with Martha Stoumen. They will be discussing the rising popularity of natural wines, farming, production, and the business behind these low-intervention wines.
On March 2, Savor: The Terroir of Beer brings together innovators in the beer industry to discuss how terroir applies to malting and brewing. Join the conversation between UC Davis' brewmaster and founders of the first Native-women-owned brewery and a Bay Area craft malthouse who are breaking new ground.
Forum: Diners, Drivers, and the Design of Meat Alternatives on March 16 features Dr. Andrew Gravelle, Assistant Professor from the Department of Food Science and Technology, and Phil Horn, President & CEO of the Burger Patch. We will delve into the science behind plant-based meats and the customer values driving the market.
And finally, sensory studies at the Robert Mondavi Institute are recruiting volunteers to be part of their consumer survey study to improve melon flavor. Details are below, and I encourage you to sign up if you'd like to be part of it. We'll share more opportunities in the future.
We'll have more exciting events to announce soon. In the meantime, stay safe, and we hope to see you at one of our events soon.
Sincerely,
Andrew Waterhouse
