December 2021: Letter from the Director
Winter Reflections
As we look back on 2021, we acknowledge that another year during a pandemic has been challenging, but there are glimmers of hope.
The highlights have one thing in common - being back in person. Students on campus brought back the energy and excitement of campus life. The return of TASTE under the olive trees at the heart of the Robert Mondavi Institute reconnected us with our friends, colleagues, and supporters. Savor: Our First Superfood and the Infant Microbiome highlighted the vibrancy possible when experts gather together and engage in lively dialogue. I would like to recognize our speakers for making a special effort to reach our audience in a creative new way.
Next year, we hope to continue to expand in-person events while retaining the virtual component for our national and international supporters. I'm personally excited by the topics we are exploring for 2022. Some ideas include the business of natural wine, exploring the terroir of beer, highlighting the UC Davis Student Farm, digging into seeds, and partnering with Madeline Puckette, Master Sommelier and Co-founder of WineFolly, on a Sips and Bites program.
We'll announce event specifics in January and encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates and other engaging content.
On Wednesday, Sips and Bites focused on artisanal tea and the UC Davis Global Tea Initiative. The event recording will be live next week. Subscribe to our YouTube channel, and you'll be the first to know when it is available.
We are grateful for all your support this year and look forward to an even better 2022.
Sincerely,
Andrew Waterhouse
