Fall fruits and vegetables

November 2022: Letter from the Director

Greetings & Gratitude

The changing color of the leaves and the colder temperatures usher in the holiday season filled with food, friends, and feelings of gratitude.

We've hosted a variety of fun and informative events this year on topics such as alternative meat, the terroir of beer, small farms, experimental wines, goats, the business of wine, and more. I want to thank the Friends of the Robert Mondavi Institute for supporting these events and furthering our mission. Their generosity enables us to continue to expand our public programs and highlight the fantastic advances at UC Davis in a fun and approachable way. Thank you!

The fourth installment of our video tour series features the Food Innovation Lab, Pilot Plant, and Milk Lab at the Robert Mondavi Institute. Each facility offers experiential learning for students and a place where research and innovation happen. Watch the video to see the unique areas and hear from students, staff, and faculty about their importance.

If you are looking for great gifts, remember that the UC Davis Olive Center and the Honey and Pollination Center have products that not only support their work but are the perfect gift for the food-lover in your life or your hard-to-shop-for family members. Visit the UC Davis Store to browse the items.

Speaking of UC Davis centers, the Olive Center will host an Olio Nuovo Festival on Saturday, December 10. If you have yet to hear of Olio Nuovo, it is the freshest press of olive oil for limited release and not to be missed! Save the date, and they will share more details soon.

The Honey and Pollination Center has an incredible lineup of courses in the new year, including Intro to Mead Making, Mead Making Bootcamp, and a three-part Honey Exploration Series. Visit their website for details.

Lastly, we continue to partner with the University of Notre Dame on their Think ND program, Science & Business of Wine, Spirits and Beer. The first in the spirits series was hosted today and the video recording will be available soon. Visit their website for details.

Thank you all for your support, and cheers to the holiday season!

With gratitude,

Andrew Waterhouse
